Former Colorado Politician Steve Durham
Steven J. Durham was born July 15, 1947 in Wichita, Kansas. He has lived most of his life in Colorado and graduated from Cheyenne Mountain High School in 1965 and the University of Northern Colorado in 1969.
He was first elected to the Colorado General Assembly in 1974. He was re-elected to the House of Representatives in 1976 and 1978 and elected to the Senate in 1980. Steve resigned in 1981 to serve as the Regional Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency for Region VIII. Steve Durham was re-elected to the Colorado State Senate in 1984 and retired in 1988.
In 1975, his colleagues elected Steve Durham as “Outstanding Freshman Member of the House of Representatives” and in 1988 his colleagues voted him as the “Most Influential Member of the Colorado State Senate”.
In 2016, Steve was elected to a 6-year term on the Colorado State Board of Education from the 5th Congressional District. He received 67% of the vote.
While semi-retired, Steve serves as a consultant to several Colorado businesses.
Steve Durham has been married to his wife of 39 years, Rose A. Durham and has one daughter, Lisa, an attorney in private practice in Buffalo, New York. Steve Durham has lived in Colorado Springs since 1957 and has been a member of numerous civic organizations.
